Two named storms in four days. Austen deepened rapidly as it ran into southwest England on 22 and 23 October, then crossed the Channel into the North Sea. Shipping in the Belgian seaports was halted until the Saturday morning. Boelo followed on 24 and 25 October, with gusts of 84 mph at Machrihanish. In the model the waves reach about 12 metres west of Brittany under Austen and nearly 13 metres northwest of Ireland under Boelo.
