Storm Xaver on 5 and 6 December 2013, one of the strongest North Sea storm surges in decades. A northwesterly gale pushed water into the southern North Sea and the surge ran around the coast, from Scotland down to the Belgian and Dutch coast and on into the German Bight, where the model puts it at around 2.5 m above the predicted tide. The chart shows how, at Vlissingen, the surge arrived on top of a high tide.
