24 hours of ships off Vlissingen: where the river pilots board (AIS)

The Vlissingen roads · 31 October to 1 November 2026 · AIS

The Vlissingen roads, where every ship bound for Antwerp, Ghent or Terneuzen changes pilot: the sea pilot steps off, the river pilot steps on, with the ship still moving. The pilot boats are ringed in yellow; watch them run out to each ship and back to the harbour. AIS received from 31 October to 1 November 2026, 24 hours in 4 minutes. Every ship under way carries its name and is drawn to scale from its AIS dimensions, placed by antenna position and heading, with its track over the last 20 minutes. In the roads 334 ships appeared in 24 hours, 233 of them under way; 29 were over 200 m and 10 over 300 m, the largest CMA CGM Notre Dame at 400 m. Pilot boats under way: Raan, Honte, Lacerta and Milo. The data comes from volunteer receivers on shore, so a ship occasionally drops out of view for a while.
